Institute for Field Research (IFR) Pays a Visit to the Balkan Heritage Field School

The Balkan Heritage Foundation (BHF) received a friendly visit by Prof. Fred Limp (University of Arkansas), Prof. Rowan Flad (Harvard University) and Kerby Bennett (IFR) asrepresentatives of the Institute for Field Research (IFR). Between January 12th and 16th, our guests were introduced to the aims and activities of the Balkan Heritage Field School (BHFS). They met the BHFS dig directors Dr. Malgorzata Kulova, Dr. Krastina Panayotova, Dr. Aleksey Gotsev, Dr. Yavor Boyadzhiev, Dr. Kamen Boyadzhiev, and Silvana Blazhevska, whose excavations are supported by the BHF. During their travels through Bulgaria and Republic of Macedonia our guests met museum directors Dr. Hristina Tsoneva (Regional Historical Museum of Blagoevgrad), Valentina Taneva (Archaeological Museum of Septemvri) and Dimitar Nedev (Archaeological Museum of Sozopol) and visited the BHFS archaeological sites at Ilindentsi, Stobi, Pistiros, Yunatsite and Sozopol. On January 14th, together with BHF representatives, they met the cultural affairs officer of the USA in Republic of Macedonia Mrs. Kaitlin Turck and exchanged opinions on the topic of cultural heritage preservation in that country.
