BALKAN HERITAGE FIELD SCHOOL PROJECT PACK 2015:

DESCRIPTION: The pack is combination of two Balkan Heritage Field School (BHFS) projects focused on Balkan Prehistory. It provides to either students or people interested in Archaeology and Prehistory comprehensive experience (from four to eight weeks, covering the Balkan Neolithic and Chalcolithic (Copper Age) periods) at two different sites: the Neolithic settlement in Illindentsi and Tell Yunatsite, both located in Bulgaria. What is more, choosing to participate in the pack's proposals the BHFS participants will benefit from the considerably reduced admission fees and faster registration.

The nearest air terminal: Sofia (Bulgaria, 150 km/93 mi) - don't forget checking the low cost flight options! If participants arrive at the Sofia airport, a transfer to Ilindentsi may be arranged by request (Please, specify this in your application form!). Individual or group transfers' price may vary depending on number of passengers from 30 to 100 EUR.
How to get there? Participants who arrange individually their travel will be expected to arrive on the arrival day in Strumyani by 6.30 pm. From there (meeting point is the bus stop in Strumyani) they will be given a free lift to Ilindentsi. Direct bus lines and trains connect the village of Strumyani with the towns of Sandanski (bus and train station, 16 km away from Ilindentsi) and the Bulgarian capital Sofia (150 km/93 mi away from Ilindentsi). Strumyani may be reached also from Thessaloniki (Greece) by either train (stop in Sandanski) or by bus (stop in Strumyani only upon request).
Travel between the field school projects in the pack: The village of Ilindentsi is located about 200 km/125 mi from the town of Pazardzhik. The last could be reached easy by:

Participants will be fully supported by the BHFS when planning and arranging their trips between the pack's locations.
Free time: The village of Ilindentsi offers great opportunities for mountain hikes in the Pirin Mountains, walks in the Art Center Ilindentsi and wine-tasting of local wines at Kiossev Boutique Wine Cellar. The town of Pazardzhik and its surroundings offers a variety of opportunities for good entertainment, sightseeing, sports, wine-tasting and shopping. Beside that the completePrehistoric Pack program has the following scheduled tours covered by the admission fee:
Extra trips and excursions: The BHFS participants could take advantage of their stay in the Balkans and take part in the optional excursions to:
1. Philippi, Kavala and the Aegean coast (Greece) on 27-28 June, 2015;
2. Istanbul and Troy (Turkey) on 6-10 June, 2015;
3. Istanbul and Troy (Turkey) on 9-13 August, 2015;
4. Historical sites and towns in North-western Thrace (Bulgaria) during the field school project Rise and Fall of the First European Civilization - Tell Yunatsite Excavations.
Credit hours: New Bulgarian University grants up to 18 credits to students for participation in the field school project sessions that are part of the PREHISTORIC PACK. Participation in one/two sessions of either the field school projects in the pack is awarded with 6/9 credit hours. So participants in the various sessions of the PREHISTORIC PACK could obtain between 6 and 18 credits (Please refer to the list below for details!).
